Notes on 2 Peter

3:8-9 – God is holding back the End because He doesn’t want anyone lost.  He’s giving everyone space and time to change.

2:1-22 – Lying prophets and preachers who distort the word for their own purposes.

3:14-16 – Some things Paul wrote are difficult to understand.  Irresponsible people who don’t know what they are talking about twist them every which way.  They do it to the rest of the Scriptures, too, destroying themselves as they do it.

Notes on 1 Peter

Some general notes:

1:22 – Love one another as if your lives depended on it.

2:9 – You are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work.

2:11-17 – Be a living example so that your actions refute the way of the world. Do not make yourself comfortable in this world. By doing good, you will cure the ignorance of those who think you’re a danger to society.

4:7-11 – Love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for almost anything. Be quick to feed the hungry or shelter the homeless. Be generous with what God gave you so that all may share.

5:6-7 – Be content with who you are and don’t put on airs. God’s strong is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time.

Notes on Galatians

Some general notes:

3:15-27 – The end of the law and the reason for the law. The law was there to protect the Jews, keeping them on the path to God. Now, through Christ, we have a direct relationship with God.

4:21-31 – Abraham had two sons – one by a slave and one by his wife (a free woman). The slave child was born of human connivance and the free child was born by God’s promise. Isaiah wrote “The children of the barren woman now surpass the children of the chosen woman.” We are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

5:2-3 – No more circumcision, no more law. Although, Jesus was circumcised, wasn’t he?

5:13-15 – Freedom from the law is not an excuse to do whatever you want. We are to use the freedom to serve each other in love. (See Matthew 22:39 or Leviticus 19:18)

5:19-21 – Trappings of the world that develop when not living in the spirit

6:4-5 – Carefully explore who you are and the work you have been given. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.

6:11-13 – Those that follow the law do so to look good in front of others because they are too afraid to live by faith. They only selectively observe and boast of their success.
